Elle:
Why art? What’s your background?

Minni Havas:

As long as I remember I’ve been interested in art. My mom told me my favourite book when I was like two years old was Musee du Louvre catalogue. I went to art school when I was five and later continued to study fine arts to university but after one year I changed to fashion. I didn’t see my self doing something like painting for the rest of my life. I wanted to explore some other possibilities and that has been a blessing to me. Since studying fashion has brought another angle and source of inspiration to my drawings.

Elle:
Where do you get inspiration for your models that you choose to draw?

Minni Havas:

I’m very intuitional with my arrangements. So I kind of follow the first impression that I have and strive towards that. But I also use what I have at hand at the moment. Sometimes I photograph my friends and use them as models. I draw rough sketches of the composition and then I search internet and collect pictures for inspiration. I usually make photo collages based on my sketches and use them as my models. Popular culture, movies, fashion photos and art (renaissance paintings, abstract expressionism, greec/roman antique, bauhaus etc.) inspire me.

Elle:
How has your practice change over time?

Minni Havas:

I’ve become more efficient over time. I used to procrastinate but now I just start immediately when I get the chance. I’m also more aware of my schedule and what I’m able to do. Also what comes to techniques I’m better at choosing the best ways to do the picture and use diffent tools.

Elle:
How does your job as an artist influence your life? Do you fell that you see things around you differently for example?

Minni Havas:

I think this kind of thing is hard to see yourself because it’s such a major part of your personality. But for sure it defines how I see things. I observe things around me and use that inspiration for my work. I would say I’m more aware all the time as much as possible to receive inspiration from my surroundings.

Elle:
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Minni Havas:

I live one day at a time. But I see my self continuing the same things as I do now. I hope my work is more established. I hope my work supports our family life and is healthy part of my life as its now. I hope I get to work with amazing people and projects that are versatile and bring out new sides of my skills and what I can do.
