Elle:
Tell us please about yourself! What’s your background?
Antonio Soares:
I live in Oporto, Portugal and work as a freelance illustrator and give classes of illustration and drawing ! I took a degree on fine Arts – Painting and longly later (when i finished my degree) I started to make fashion illustration, as a personal project!
It was not my goal, to work as a fashion illustrator. In 2001 start to give classes in a university and in a fashion school but 10 years later I was unenployed. While I was looking for a new job I start to paint again…. I had the luck the people start to like my work… And one year later I start to get commissioned works from all over the world!
Elle:
Please, describe us a bit about your creative process while creating your artwork.
Antonio Soares:
I do a lot of reserch, I ” Google ” a lot it is easy for me, to see better the ” fashion industry” also magazines help me a lot!
Then I start with the female/ male face! That is verry important to me: the know/ draw/ illustrate the face of the person that holds a beautiful piece made by a fashion designer… Of course, fashion designers inspired me lot.
Elle:
What do you think about fashion? Is fashion a part of your every day? How does fashion influence our live.
Antonio Soares:
Fashion reflects the changes of our world! I think fashion can be a state of mind, it can represent the my mood, and has to describe the personalitie! Fashion influence me a lot!!! The colors, the shapes, the touch of the fabrics …. If it is comfortable …
And also influences me, just because at this moment it is one of my jobs….
Elle:
What role does the artist have in society?
Antonio Soares:
Several, but it all depends of your audience! I think they can change our world, in several aspects just because art works with our senses… Sometimes, I do realise that it helps me to dream!!! And dreams come true!
Elle:
How do you see your creative area on the next 5 or 10 years?
Antonio Soares:
I hope i till have that as a job!!! I do like a lot painting, it helps me a lot to improve my skills and also (and the most important) helps my mind to re/start ! It helps me to organize my minde, my heart!
