Learn the rules and then break them ! Im Interview mit Fotograf Pierre Turtaut

„Music was his first love“, doch nach der Musik kam die Fotografie, welcher Pierre Turtaut seit seinem 25. Lebensjahr verfallen ist und nun seit fünf Jahren hauptberuflich als Fotograf nachgeht.

Elle:
How did you become involved with photography? Do you remember your first camera?

Pierre Turtaut:

The first cameras I saw was very early in my fathers hands that was a very passionate amateur, from Leica to Hasselblad he had a lot of nice toys….My first was a compact Konica film camera that looked like a toy when I was 10ish.

But I really got involved when I bought my first digital dslr (canon 450d) when I was around 25. My sister had a clothing brand and asked me to do fashion shoots of it….then I was hooked up.

Elle:
How do you pick your models? What kind of features should a model have to work with you?

Pierre Turtaut:

It all depends on the project I work on, that will bring the physical features needed, but overall, the important thing I look for is complicity that will bring way more attitude and feeling to the shoot.

Elle:
Would you give a brief walk through your work flow?

Pierre Turtaut:

It normally starts with a moodboard and scooting if needed, the shoot done…I use either Lightroom or Capture one depending on what treatment I look for, and then photoshop comes in for heavier retouching if needed.

Elle:
Are there any photographers whose work and exhibitions you follow?

Pierre Turtaut:

A lot! It goes from Testino, Roversi, Newton to Rankin, Nick Knight and Desiree Mattson…. And it keeps growing everyday!

Elle:
Any quotes you live by?

Pierre Turtaut:

Learn the rules and then break them

Elle:
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Pierre Turtaut:

If I dream a bit….shooting cover stories for Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar and campaigns for Chanel or YSL…I know I dream big, but I think it is necessary to always push things further. As long as I can make a living from my passion I will be happy.
