Underwater by Eric Zener

Weitere Infos hier!

Elle:
When and how did you begin to see yourself as an artist?

Eric:

As I child it was my past time and a place to escape into. My family was very supportive of creative output and encouraged my art making. In my early 20’s I began to make art again as an „escape“, however this time I decided to also pursue it as a career. After some early validation and success, I dove in deep and have been full time painter ever since. I am 45 now.

Elle:
Your wonderful works looks like photography with a unbelievable exactness in the details. Which painting technique do you use?

Eric:

In person they really show the human hand. They are definitely and exercise in realism, however I embrace the looseness and imperfections that come out of the painting process. I am not trying to fool the eye with photorealism. I like making an aim towards „exactness“ but attempt more to capture the essence and feeling, rather than perfection.

Elle:
When do you get your best ideas? What’s your inspiration?

Often times one painting leads to another idea. Making something can cause an inspiration or idea for the next. I tend to work in series of compositions or ideas. Music, travel and nature are where I find most direct inspiration.

Elle:
What are your future plans?

Eric:

I really enjoy the water, however I have recently found myself quite enamored with paintings entangled trees. I think being immersed in nature is similar to being submerged in water. Both are big and both provide refuge from the noisy world we live in.
