Animal ipstick Art – Paige Thompson

Elle:
When and how did you begin to see yourself as an artist?

Paige:

I started focusing on art as a passion of mine around 12 years of age. I mainly drew characters that I came up with in my head and figured that improving my technique and style would be priority for me in my future goals. About 4 years ago, in 2008, photography became a field of interest for me, which led to the creation of my Animal-ipstick series. It’s more of a side hobby, though, for what I truly want to pursue is hand-drawn concept art.

Elle:
What’s fascinations for you?

Paige:

When it comes to photography, I’m really interested in macro shots of nature or other unique objects/environments. I like taking a small world and opening it up into something big as if it were a new dimension. As for my pencil and photoshop work, I enjoy drawing people (characters that I make up or the human figure in general) and fan art for movies or games that I like.

Elle:
Tell us something to your way of thinking and acting for your work „animal-ipstick“!

Paige:

The Animal-ipstick series started with the Bumblebee. I was simply painting random designs on my lips to see if anything would come to me, and once I had applied black and yellow stripes it instantly reminded me of a bee. I just added eyes and wings. :) Since my Bumblebee became a bit popular online, I decided to do more animals. Over the past 3 years, I feel I’ve improved on the level of detail in my lip paintings, especially with my recent one, the Jaguar. I hope to one day presentmy Animal-ipstick series in a little gallery showing of some sort.

Elle:
Do you have any upcoming projects we should know about?

Paige:

The only project I have planned for my photography is finishing the list of animals requested by others for my Animal-ipstick series. Some of the animals I’ll be creating are a monkey, a parrot, and a dog.

Elle:
Oh nice, great idea. I look forward to visiting your deviantart-page and see the new ones.

Many thanks to you, Page!
